Azhwar Pashuram:Tirumangaiazhwar: 1 Pashuram Sthala Puranam:Shiva tested Parvathi’s commitment to performing tapas by setting fire to the mango tree under which she was seated. Parvathi prayed to her brother Lord Vishnu, who caused waves of nectar to cool down the scorching rays. Lord Vishnu as Vamana continues to stay at this kshethram at the request of Parvati. It is also believed that at the request of Lord Vishnu the moon adorning Shiva alleviated the discomfort of heat that emanated during the churning of the milky ocean. Hence the name, Nilaatingal Tundattan.
