He had once taken a trip to Tirumalai where he asked to see the Lord in the form of Krishna bearing two hands. Tiruvengadamudayan told the king that was not possible as he is in the form of and not in Sri Vainkuntham. He advised the king to go further south where he could find Kairavini Pushkarani. He asked the king to perform tapas there and told him that his prayers would be heard. At around the same time, Atreya Maharishi who was a disciple of Maharishi Vyasa had brought an idol of Parthasarathy Perumal here. When Sumathi Raja's tapas was completed, the Lord appeared to him as Venkata Krishna Perumal holding the Panchajanyam in one hand and showcasing the Varada Mudra in His other hand. Along with the Lord appeared Rukmini Devi, Balarama(the Lord's older brother), Pradyumna(the Lord's son), Anirudha( the Lord's grandson) and Satyaki(the Lord's charioteer). *** The utsava murthy ie; Parthasarathy Perumal can be seen with scars that are said to have been inflicted on Him by Bheeshma during the Mahabharata war.
